SUMMARY

Assists with the development of business plans and marketing strategy for the process of developing, improving and maintaining company products in the marketplace. Works with Sales, Communications, Code Compliance, Design Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and IT to help define the direction of product and provide customer feedback into the organization. Participates with key departments to discuss and understand product concepts and reviews initial designs for strategic direction. Requires a strong skill set in communication of technical information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Participates in product strategy, research and development requirements, and manufacturing coordination for existing and new products.

 

Uses project management process to track project progress and ensure that tasks assigned are completed in appropriate order and within established timeframes.

 

Collaborates with a wide variety of functional areas such as Sales, Engineering, Brand Marketing, Manufacturing and Code Compliance to develop product definitions responsive to customer needs and market opportunities.

 

Creates and monitors Status Report Updates on each product enhancement initiative and new product development plan. Ensures research, analysis and ongoing measurement of product performance relative to goals and strategic marketing plans.

 

Maintains involvement with company’s competitive intelligence activities to help build an overall strategy and incorporate both internal business needs and information learned from competitors’ offerings.

 

Monitors product designs for possible variations and/or options for manufacturability and/or product design flaws. Oversees recommendations of changes to minimize complexities and unnecessary variations.

 

Works with product Costing Team to initiate the development of new product costing models. Assesses, accurately interprets and competently manipulates costing models. Assists with costing and pricing strategies to support product profit margins.

 

Oversees dissemination of information regarding approved product options and features.

 

Ensures product development and support staff coordinate the processes involved in bringing a new or redesigned product to market and support existing products after introduction. These processes include:

  • Configuration templates used to identify the product and its possible variations

  • Development of sales and marketing materials for new and existing products and maintenance of information on company’s web site.

  • Communicates product updates to PGT-University and Customer Service to maintain up-to-date product information necessary for dealer education, internal product training and continuing education.

  • Engineering Change Order requests requiring changes to manufacturing processes, additional product options, new product implementation, and changes to existing products or parts

  • Sample builds

Reviews product test plans for inclusion of all the options the company intends to sell and that draft test reports and Miami-Dade County Notice of Acceptances are accurate and complete.

 

Attends meetings and seminars to research information useful to technical training staff and to inform management of technical training programs and goals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May have one direct report.

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree preferred or minimum of five years experience in a technical field

High comfort working in a highly ambiguous, fast paced environment

Familiarity with the fenestration or building industry and products

MS Office with advanced Excel knowledge

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities

Ability to manage projects and work independently

Read and understand Engineering BOM, product drawings and anchorage details

Understands code requirements, product testing and performance

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Mathematical skills necessary to perform report queries, spreadsheet modeling, and statistical analysis

Strategic thinking

Strong analytical/problem-solving skills
