The CNC Programmer / Machinist analyzes blueprints and drawings to determine machining configurations and suitability for CNC machining. Utilizing various software programs the CNC Programmer / Machinist is capable of programming with G-code as well as conversational programming strategies across a variety of CNC machines.
Fully qualified as a Machinist A, the successful incumbent has an in depth knowledge of feed rates, cutter speeds, and fixturing for a wide variety of part and cutter materials. Practical knowledge of machining properties and characteristics for a wide variety of materials including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Fabricates fenestration-framing materials to exacting tolerances using all manual and CNC equipment including the Emmegi 5 axis, Emmegi 3 axis and Hurco machining centers or has a working knowledge of similar machinery.
- Computes dimensions, plan layout, and determine most effective method and sequence of operations, including load balancing among machine centers, all with input and concurrence from Manufacturing Engineering.
- Sets-up tooling, fixturing, and programs for efficient and accurate part production; clearly provides training and instructions for all CNC operators, including off shifts, to perform the machining functions after “proving out” the program.
- Establish machining center
- Builds schedules for all shifts and directs off shift teams accordingly
- Manages the flow of work through the CNC machining cell.
- Produces any component required from sketch or blueprint with no instruction.
- Routinely accesses the database of programs and setup instructions for commonly produced parts.
- Assembles, fits, and tests fixtures, gauges, etc. for proper function.
- Works with immediate supervision and production scheduling personnel daily to establish the most efficient fabrication and build sequence. Then coordinates the CNC workstation across all shifts.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance on machining centers: diagnose cutting problems to insure condition of cutting tools.
- Works directly with design and manufacturing engineers on process related concerns.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Technical school training in machining and tooling
10 years experience in manual and CNC machining.
LANGUAGE / COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Basic English language skills
Knowledge of trigonometry and geometry
Ability to visualize completed product
Ability to determine steps necessary to produce components.
