SUMMARY

The Payroll Leader compiles payroll and tax data to maintain payroll and tax records by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Verifies payroll data such as hours worked, taxes to be withheld, and employee identification numbers from company records.

  • Enters data into computer files, verifies accuracy of changes affecting wages and deductions, and posts to payroll records.

  • Records changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records.

  • Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions.

  • Reviews, corrects, balances and posts payroll to General Ledger Account(s).

  • Compiles tax information from system and prepares multi-state tax withholding returns, unemployment returns, and federal returns.

  • Prepares and issues paychecks.

  • Prepares multi-state registration application(s) for state tax withholding when necessary.

  • Prepares correspondence with contacts out of the office.

  • Assists in monthly closing including reconciling accounts and researching questions.

  • Compiles data and prepares weekly reports for payroll, hours worked, over time and direct labor.

  • Assists in monthly closing including reconciling accounts, posting journal entries, and researching questions.

  • Prepares and tracks payroll cash records such as wire transfers and manual checks.

  • Works on projects as time permits.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma

  • Minimum 3 years payroll experience

  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles

  • Proficient in use of 10 key calculator

  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel/Word)

  • AA/AS Degree in Accounting helpful

LANGUAGE / COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Basic English language skills.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Perform basic mathematical calculations including percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Must possess basic analytical skills that enable one to distinguish discrepancies or errors that will lead to a possible resolution.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to travel occasionally domestically.

 

Occasional: activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.

Frequent: activity exists 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
