Performs and supervises all activities necessary to process 1 or more payrolls, including maintaining related records, filing tax reports and voluntary deduction reports, processing involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments, preparing accounting transactions and documents, documenting and updating procedures, and preparing special reports for senior management or auditors. Supervises or leads a team of 1 or 2 Payroll Specialists or assistants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reviews and approves the Centralized Payroll process for accuracy
Performs Payroll process in absence of Payroll Specialist
Verifies payroll data such as hours worked, taxes to be withheld, and employee identification numbers from company records
Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions
Compiles tax information from system and prepares multi-state tax withholding returns, unemployment returns, and federal returns.
Prepares multi-state registration application(s) for state tax withholding when necessary.
Assists in monthly closing including reconciling accounts, posting journal entries, and researching questions
Prepares and compiles requested information for the audit team
Fulfills wage garnishment requirements by completing forms; adjusting payroll records, documenting and transmitting withholdings; negotiating with collection agencies to convert garnishments to wage assignments
Supervises and coordinates fiscal and calendar year-end processing of payroll, including supplemental payrolls, W-2 and other tax forms, and other government required documentation.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma
Minimum 3-5 years payroll experience
Strong working knowledge of accounting principles
Proficient in use of 10 key calculator
Proficient in MS Office (Excel/Word)
Strong knowledge of payroll laws and practices
LANGUAGE / COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Basic English language skills
Perform basic mathematical calculations including percentages
Must possess basic analytical skills that enable one to distinguish discrepancies or errors that will lead to a possible resolution.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CPP esignation preferred
